Indonesian Language Short Course

Tim Kramer is a student from the Murdoch University. Tim undertook the Indonesian Language Short Course at Satya Wacana University in Salatiga with the assistance of a $3,000 New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant in 2023. Tim is studying Bachelor of Arts.

Q: Why did you decide to undertake ACICIS’ Indonesian Language Short Course?

The in-country experience would challenge and surround me in Indonesian Language.

Q: Did you receive a New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant? If so, how did this contribute to your experience in Indonesia?

Yes I received the new plan, without it I wouldn’t have been able to undertake this experience, thus it is very important that this initiative is available.

Q: What did you find to be the most rewarding part of this in-country experience?

I love interacting with the Indonesian people. They are very open and help me to learn more about language and culture in Indonesia.

Q: What do you find to be the most challenging about the ILSC?

I think the challenges you face are the challenges you set yourself. If you are open to the experience it will be rewarding.

Q: Have you had previous experience learning Indonesian in Australia? If yes, how different was the in-country ILSC to your previous experiences?

I have learnt Indonesian in Australia, but being immersed in the language on a day to day basis is far more educational and helped me to learn quicker.

Q: Were you able to learn about the Indonesian culture from this in-country program? If yes, how was this achieved?

Yes, I had time to visit places of cultural significance and interact with people on a day to day basis.

Q: What did you enjoy most about the course?

Interacting with different people on a day to day basis.

Q: How will your proficiency in Indonesian Language gained through the ILSC influence your future career or study?

It will help me in my task as a school teacher.

Q: Would you recommend this program to your friends?

Definitely.
