Darien Winarso is a participant in the 2017 Business Professional Practicum from UNSW Australia. Darien is studying a Bachelor of Engineering and a Bachelor of Commerce.
Q: Why did you decide to undertake the ACICIS program?
The three main reasons I decided to undertake the ACICIS program was firstly because I wanted to visit my extended family in Jakarta and spend quality time with them during my study break. Secondly, I wanted to embrace and reconnect with the Indonesian culture as Jakarta was once my home. I felt that relearning the Indonesian language would help me accomplish this. The final reason for why i undertook the ACICIS program was to partially fulfil my industrial training requirements set by my home university.
Q: How will the Professional Practicum benefit or influence your future career?
I believe the Professional Practicum will definitely provide me with the necessary skills that is required in the workplace and introduce me to the business mindset in preparation for my future career.
Q: What organisation will you be interning with? (Explain your roles and responsibilities)
I am currently interning at Indonesia Infrastructure Guarantee Fund (IIGF) institute and our objective is to attract private sectors to invest in public infrastructure and initiate a Public-Private Partnership infrastructure project. My role as an intern is to do research on the Quantitative Value for Money of different procurement methods and finding the most efficient solution.
Q: How have you found the work culture of your host organisation? How is it different to work experience in Australia?
I’ve noticed that the work culture in Jakarta is quite laid back and less stressful than working as a student on assignments and projects.
Q: What do you like to do in your spare time in Indonesia?
Either spend time with my family or spend time with the people I’ve met during the ACICIS program.
Q: Would you like to return to work in Indonesia again in future?
Would be open to go back to Indonesia for work given the salary measures up to an adequate level.
