Neelam Shekhar Bhakta is a 2016 New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant recipient from Western Sydney University. Neelam is studying a Bachelor of Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security.
This is Neelam’s first semester with ACICIS, and he is undertaking the Agriculture Semester Program at Bogor Agricultural University.
Q: Why did you decide to undertake the ACICIS program?
I am interested in food diversity and agroforestry and believe that studying in another country is good for increasing holistic view.

Q: Are you hoping to get involved in any clubs/societies at the University?
I have joined the rugby team in Bogor and I want to join pencak silat (Indonesian martial arts) classes. At the university so far I have participated in mangrove planting and would like to join the forestry club.
Q: What extra-curricular activities are you hoping to do while in Indonesia?
I will soon undertake an internship working in mangrove replanting, seed harvesting, and propagation of mangroves.
