Q: Why did you decide to undertake this ACICIS Professional Practicum?
I decided to take part in the ACICIS program because I thought it would be a great experience to take part in something different and I was not disappointed as I got to learn and experience the vast culture that Bali had to offer!
Q: How will the Professional Practicum benefit or influence your future career?
I believed that the professional practicum has helped me grow as a person, the practicum helped me learn a lot about a different culture and environment but also about myself! I think the cultural experience that I have learnt will benefit me in the short and long term, as I can incorporate what I have learnt in this practicum to my future career.
Q: Which organisation are you interning with? What are your roles and responsibilities?
MTA Temawang – During my time with MTA, I was teaching English to students at the junior high school (SMPN 2 Selat) and I was teaching sustainable tourism, English vocabulary used in hospitality and tips for job interviewing at the Senior high school (SLUA Selat). In addition, I taught English to a handful of students who volunteered to learn and improve on their English-speaking capabilities during the weekends. Furthermore, I developed a trekking route in the village of Selat and help create a brochure to help market the proposed trekking route.
Q: How have you found the work culture of your host organisation? How is it different to work experience in Australia?
The work culture in the village of my host organisation, Selat, was very different to my experience in Australia. Selat was a farming village so working hours were different but also more relaxed. The culture and religion in the village play a massive role in their work culture & livelihood, something very different to Australia.
