About Cardno Acil

Cardno Acil work exclusively in international development assistance, and specialise in the management of projects that improve the economic and social welfare of communities in developing countries. They manage contracts that range from short-term, one-person assignments to multidisciplinary long-term projects with large teams and budgets. Having completed more than 400 projects in 63 countries over 30 years, Cardno’s experience extends across Asia, PNG, the Pacific, Africa, the Middle East and the Caribbean, and includes projects funded by AusAID, the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank. Cardno design and manage development projects in a range of sectors including Education; Governance; Health; HIV and AIDS; Resource and Environment Management; and Infrastructure. Cardno Acil works with a range of international donor agencies and private clients, in partnership with governments, the private sector and communities, they build on local systems to strengthen institutions and promote self-reliance. Australia-Nusa Tenggara Assistance for Regional Autonomy Program (ANTARA)
The goal of the ANTARA Program is to reduce poverty through sustainable and equitable social and economic development, initially in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) and subsequently expanding to West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Program objectives are to:

• Improve provincial and district governance.
• Improve peri-urban and rural income.
• Improve access to and quality of delivery of basic services in NTT and NTB.

Basic Education Program (BEP)
Cardno Acil partners with AusAID and the Government of Indonesia to improve education standards across six provinces in Indonesia through The Managing Contractor Program Management for the Australia Indonesia Basic Education Program (MCPM BEP). The program includes construction or refurbishment of 2000 to 3000 schools, providing asset and contract management support and increased capacity throughout the education sector in Indonesia. Program objectives are to:

• Ensure accessibility to education for all children, particularly in remote areas.
• Support the improvement of education standards across six provinces in Indonesia.
• Construction/refurbishment of 2000 to 3000 schools.
• Boost capacity throughout the education sector in Indonesia.
• Asset and contract management support.

Learning Assistance Program for Islamic Schools (LAPIS)
The LAPIS program is designed to improve basic education quality in Indonesia’s Islamic schools, through a range of immediate impact and longer-term development activities. The purpose is to create a mechanism for targeted quality improvements in the Islamic Education sub-sector, with an emphasis on a learning orientation, accountability to multiple stakeholders, flexibility, responsiveness to local needs and building on existing local capacity. Through this innovative contracting model Cardno Acil, as the Technical and Coordination Support Contractor (TCSC), provides technical, financial management, procurement, and coordination support services to the LAPIS Director Adviser.

Requirements

The intern positions at Cardno Acil are limited to Victorian-based candidates as a condition of the placement is that candidates visit the Melbourne Office of Cardno Acil for briefings prior to leaving for Indonesia. In addition to development studies students, this position is well-suited to candidates studying who are also studying in communications/media programs.

Intern Duties (Example)

Assisting on the periphery of a bid, observing/assisting with the preparation/review of tenders and other documentation, helping out program managers as required, working at program sites as required. The Basic Education Program is managed from the Cardno building so interns may have the opportunity to work with staff on this program for several days.
