ACICIS is very excited to announce Dr Ella Prihatini as the Academic Program Officer (APO) for the winter 2021 iteration of the Virtual Journalism Professional Practicum (JPP) and the Virtual Development Studies Professional Practicum (DSPP).
Ella has over 10 years of experience in journalism and in lecturing in international relations. She previously worked as a journalist of ANTARA Indonesian News Agency (2004-2015). She has received extensive data gathering and reporting training in various countries including Japan, Australia, Qatar, and the UK. One of her key achievements is exclusively interviewing President Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan during the commemoration of Asia Africa Summit in Jakarta (2005). Ella currently teaches International Relations at Bina Nusantara (Binus) University in Indonesia. Prior to joining Binus University in March 2020, she was a teaching fellow at The University of Western Australia/UWA (2017-2019) and a lecturer in the Department of International Relations at President University (July 2013-February 2015). See her full profile here.
An Academic Program Officer is assigned to each of ACICIS’ professional practicum programs to oversee all aspects of a program, including the supervision of its academic content and assessment of student performance. The APO and ACICIS Resident Director oversee application vetting, participant selection, and work placement allocation. During the virtual program, the APO meets regularly with a student’s Host Organisation placement supervisor – and with the student themselves – to provide mentorship, to ensure that a student is getting the most out of their placement, and to assess a student’s performance. The APO provides students with advice on academic and industry-specific matters, and also plays a key role in curating and delivering the series of industry seminars that students undertake throughout the program.
ACICIS is delighted to welcome Ella as the supervising academic for the winter 2021 iteration of the virtual JPP & DSPP. Participating students will be extremely well served by Ella’s experience and expertise in journalism and international relations in Indonesia.
