On Thursday 17 September 2015, ACICIS Yogyakarta welcomed six students and one accompanying teacher from Rehoboth Christian College, Western Australia. They kicked off their Study Tour Program with an Opening Ceremony followed by language classes on Friday, 18 September, at Sanata Dharma University. Sanata Dharma’s enthusiastic teachers organised a fun Scavenger Hunt around the campus as a class activity for all the students.
Rehoboth students also learnt more about Bahasa Indonesia and Indonesian culture through their visits to a number of historical and popular places in Yogyakarta. Visiting the famous temples of Borobudur and Prambanan, and also the Taman Sari Water Castle, Kotagede, and the Underground Mosque, the students learnt about Yogya’s rich Buddhist and Hindu history. They also took in unique aspects of Indonesian culture from watching the Ramayana Ballet in Purawisata, learning how to make silver jewellery, walking through Jogja’s popular shopping spot Malioboro, and even practising how to bargain at a local market to buy ingredients for their cooking class, where they whipped up some Javanese deep-fried chicken, tahu bacem and tempe bacem for lunch!

Thank you to all our Rehoboth participants – looking forward to seeing back in Yogyakarta again!
