As 2022 draws to a close, we are filled with gratitude and excitement.
We cannot thank our consortium member universities enough for supporting students to participate–both virtually and in-country– in ACICIS programs in Indonesia this year. Thanks to your collective efforts almost 300 Australian university students have undertaken Indonesia-based study experiences through ACICIS in 2022. Check out our 2022 highlights below:
In early October, to commemorate Hari Sumpah Pemuda (Youth Pledge Day), ACICIS initiated the Bahasa Sesh Challenge. To our surprise, we received almost 50 submissions in less than a month! We also received submissions from Australian and Indonesian diplomats including Australia’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Penny Williams PSM, the Australian High Commissioner to Brunei and ACICIS alumnus, Luke Arnold, and Indonesian Consul General in Western Australia, Listiana Operananta.
November and December saw the successful return to in-country delivery of the consortium’s Public Health Study Tour (PHST) — for the first time since November 2019. The program was delivered in partnership with the University of Indonesia. Similarly, December also saw the resumption of ACICIS’ delivery of Monash University’s Global Immersion Guarantee (GIG) program in Indonesia.
As many of us head into end-of-year holidays, ACICIS staff in Indonesia are busily preparing to welcome 192 students to Indonesia in early 2023. You can read a full breakdowns of student numbers by program below. While student enrolments in ACICIS programs are not quite back to the pre-pandemic levels, we are optimistic that there will be an increase in student interest as international travel normalises.
The ACICIS Secretariat team in Perth will be taking a short break from the 23rd of December until the 9th January. Students with urgent queries are still able to contact us by email and/or by leaving a detailed voicemail message and we will get back to them.
For those celebrating, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a very happy New Year!
Salam hangat,
The ACICIS Study Indonesia Team
