For six weeks in Indonesia I completed my internship at DestinAsian which is a travel and lifestyle magazine that is distributed in the Asia-Pacific region. Initially I was extremely anxious about venturing into my first internship at an international magazine however I was comforted by my editor and other employees. I had the opportunity to publish printed stories in two of their magazine editions and numerous online articles for their website, including: Altered to Fit, Seeing Stars, and 8 Stunning Google Street View Tours
This gave me a great insight to the editing process but also helped me overcome challenges of receiving constructive criticism to enhance my writing.
The most rewarding experience was being able to pitch my own story ideas and personally interview designers for a feature article. It was an amazing adventure that I would definitely recommend to any Journalism students looking to gain knowledge in a professional environment but also challenge themselves.
I also really valued the friendships I made on the trip. It was amazing to be around like-minded people who had the same aspirations of travel and foreign learning like I do. Other than work, I had the opportunity to do so many adventurous activities like island hopping, climbing a volcano, riding motorised scooter, shopping, catching motorbikes around the city, experiencing the nightlife and visiting a refugee centre. Overall my time in Indonesia was truly the best experience I could ask for.
