In Semester 1 2023, ACICIS hosted the Yogyakarta Field Study hosted by Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). ACICIS welcomed Michele Fois a student from one of our member universities, SOAS University of London in the program.

This was his second program with ACICIS after undertaking the Flexible Language Immersion program in the previous semester. In this ACICIS Yogyakarta Field Study Program, students undertake a semester-long field study project under the supervision of a nominated UGM lecturer.

The program aimed to be a unique opportunity to undertake original field study activities in the region that is known for its rich Javanese fine art and cultural heritage in Indonesia. This semester, Michele Fois completed a mini thesis entitled “A Journey Towards the Spirit World and Beyond: Ilmu Kasampurnan in the Kejawen Dimension” which explores the Javanese spiritual tradition. This research was based in Yogyakarta and Central Java, with the period between February and May 2023.

We wrapped up the semester with a farewell dinner and awarding night. ACICIS is very proud of what the Miki has achieved in this semester! We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavour. Sampai bertemu lagi Mas Miki!
