Ishani Watson is a New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant recipient from The University of Western Australia. Ishani undertook the Virtual Indonesian Language Short Course in July 2021.
Q: Why did you decide to undertake ACICIS’ Indonesian Language Short Course?
For my course I must complete a language unit and an exchange program. ILSC offered both.
Q: Did you receive a New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant?
Yes. I would not have been able to complete this virtual experience without it.
Q: What did you find to be the most rewarding part of this virtual experience?
I have learned so much in such a short amount of time. The classes are fun and interactive and there is not much extra work after class hours.
Q: What did you find to be the most challenging about your experience on the Virtual ILSC?
It is a lot of time and effort you must commit to as it is an intensive course.
Q: Have you had previous experience learning Indonesian in Australia? If yes, how different was the Virtual ILSC to your previous experiences?
No. Classes in Indonesia are similar to those in Australia. However, this course has been much more interactive than any other I have taken in Australia.
Q: Were you able to learn about the Indonesian culture from this virtual program? If yes, how was this achieved?
Yes, I was able to learn some of the Indonesian culture from this virtual program. This was achieved through cultural exposure sessions and talking with my teachers.
Q: How will your proficiency in Indonesian Language gained through the ILSC influence your future career or study?
I will be able to communicate with Indonesian speakers in my future career and may also take further Indonesian units to improve further.
Q: Would you recommend this virtual program to your friends?
Yes. Indonesian is a great language to learn and this was a fun way to learn it.
