Chloe Reay is a New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant recipient from University of New South Wales. Chloe undertook the Virtual Indonesian Language Short Course in July 2021.
Q: Why did you decide to undertake ACICIS’ Indonesian Language Short Course?
Due to COVID I have been unable to go to Indonesia as I had planned, so I thought this course would be an excellent opportunity to improve my language skills and also my cultural understanding.
Q: Did you receive a New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant?
Receiving this grant meant that I could choose this course without having to worry about finances.
Q: What did you find to be the most rewarding part of this virtual experience?
I loved how enthusiastic and helpful the teachers were!
Q: What did you find to be the most challenging about your experience on the Virtual ILSC?
For me, learning to listen to native speakers was very challenging but it definitely helped me improve!
Q: Were you able to learn about the Indonesian culture from this virtual program? If yes, how was this achieved?
Yes, the cultural sessions were very informative and it was especially helpful to be able to ask Indonesian students questions about culture and society today!
Q: How will your proficiency in Indonesian Language gained through the ILSC influence your future career or study?
This course will assist me significantly, by gaining a deeper understanding of the language I am one step closer to becoming certified in my workplace as an Indonesian speaker.
Q: Would you recommend this virtual program to your friends?
I would definitely recommend this program to my friends and I really want to participate in this program again!
