About DCA
Divers Clean Action (DCA) was formed in 2015 by an environmental engineering student and diver who grew up on a small island in Indonesia, based on the awareness that small islands are severely affected by marine debris and DCA believes the island’s waste management system has an important role in combating the issue of marine debris.
Since 2017, DCA has officially become a youth-led foundation with more than 1000 volunteers throughout Indonesia and Southeast Asia who have focused on making the oceans clean from trash. In the early days of its formation, DCA collected data on marine debris on the coast, under the sea, and rubbish for residents in coastal areas using guidelines developed with several university teachers and the Indonesian government. Based on the data collected, DCA found many gaps and challenges that made DCA implement various programs such as citizenship science research, campaigns & training, community development, and collaboration with the private sector through the CSR / EPR program.
As of 2020, DCA has helped the development of young people who care for the environment throughout Indonesia through the Indonesian Youth Marine Debris Summit which has successfully impacted 14,285 communities, carried out the Save Our Ocean and Small Islands program with the support of USAID MWRP and the KEHATI Foundation to work with local governments to implement sorting waste from sources and segregated waste collection on 5 inhabited islands in the Thousand Islands, assisting in the preparation of the #NoStrawMovement environmental CSR program with KFC Indonesia which reduces 91% use of straws in more than 500 outlets, and collects clean beach and sea data which are also used as references Waste Management Road Map in realizing a clean Thousand Islands by 2025 and developing the first marine debris database in Indonesia, namely www.marinedebris.id. Apart from the issue of marine debris, DCA is also part of the Global Sustainable Ocean Alliance (SOA) which actively campaigns and takes action related to marine issues in the field of sustainable fisheries, maritime security, blue economy, climate change, and marine protected areas. The DCA journey was also covered by Metro TV, Kompas, Hitam Putih, Kick Andy, Channel News Asia, and Swietenia Puspa Lestari herself received the BBC 100 Women 2019 award and Forbes 30 Under 30 2020.

Intern Duties (Example)
Develop local and regional environmental campaign on waste management and ocean conservation efforts online. Including translating field activity reports into online articles and campaign.
