The ACICIS Secretariat is pleased to announce our interns for the inaugural secretariat internship.
This internship program is to provide recently returned ACICIS alumni, Indonesian nationals studying in Australia, and other individuals interested in furthering the Australia-Indonesia bilateral relationship, the opportunity to work across a wide variety of activities within the national secretariat of the Australian Consortium for ‘In-Country’ Indonesian Studies (ACICIS). These activities include communications, marketing and student recruitment activities, and student and program administration.
The Secretariat interns for semester 1 2019 are listed below:
Iven is in the final semester of his bachelor’s degree at the University of Western Australia. He is passionate about Indonesian language and indigenous languages in Australia and Indonesia, along with arts, literature, aid and development, and Eastern Indonesian textile traditions. Iven was the 2017 New Colombo Plan Indonesia Fellow and spent the year living and studying Indonesian and Javanese language as part of ACICIS semesters 44 and 45 on the Flexible Language Immersion Program at Gadjah Mada University. Iven subsequently undertook internships at literary translation organisation The Lontar Foundation (Jakarta), legal aid and human rights institute LBH Masyarakat (Jakarta) and Australian aid and community development organisation NTA East Indonesia Aid (NTT).
Raveen recently completed his Honours degree in Arts (Political Science and International Relations) at the University of Western Australia (UWA), writing his dissertation on the use of political Islam during the 2017 Jakarta gubernatorial election. As part of his undergraduate degree at UWA, Raveen spent one semester in Yogyakarta (Semester 43/Aug 2016) with ACICIS on the Flexible Language Immersion Program.
During his degree Raveen worked part time as an Indonesian tutor and administrative assistant. He follows international affairs closely and his passion for youth engagement and human rights motivated him to work for the Greens (WA), the Sri Lankan Australian Youth Association and Oxfam UWA. He loves horror movies, travelling and photography and speaks English, Indonesian, Sinhala and some Tamil and Javanese.
