ACICIS Study Indonesia was very pleased to welcome 27 students from 6 ACICIS member universities including Curtin University, The University of Western Australia, Murdoch University, Monash University, University of Sunshine Coast, and University of New South Wales to a bustling Jakarta city for the January – February 2018 iteration of the Business Professional Practicum (BPP).
The BPP students undertook two weeks of an academic program hosted by Atma Jaya Catholic University, which consisted of language classes and a series of business seminars with speakers ranging from academics to business practitioners. The seminar provided students with an overview and insight into business in Indonesia and corporate culture, covering topics from infrastructure, trade & investment, consumer behaviour, and the digital economy.
For the 2018 program, the students had the opportunity to visit GO-JEK headquarters. GO-JEK is a ride-hailing applications where its motorcycle-like taxi has become an integral part of Jakarta’s landscape. The visit commenced with a sharing session in a GO-CHILL room, where students received information about GO-JEK’s history and GO-PAY – an electronic payment system which has been widely used by GO-JEK’s customers. This was followed by an exciting office tour, the students were in awe of the fun working ambience, and some students were fortunate enough to bump into Nadiem Makarim, the founder of GO-JEK during the tour.
The second field trip was to Arnott’s Indonesia factory, where the students got to witness first-hand some of the cutting-edge technology used in the making process of biscuits product, and gained insight of international trading and Arnott’s business in Indonesia, while enjoying some of Arnott’s biscuits and snacks.
The students then started their four-week professional placement in a wide range of businesses based in Jakarta, including Bank Danamon, Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Ernst & Young Indonesia, and other international businesses organisations in food technology, media, investment banking, consulting, insurance, solar power, and pharmaceuticals. During their placements, students were supervised by their workplace mentor, as well as ACICIS’ BPP Academic Program Officer, Lydia Napitupulu throughout the program.
We would like to congratulate all students for successfully completed the 2018 Business Professional Practicum, and making the most out of this program. We wish the students all the best for their future, and hope to see them back in Indonesia soon as business professionals!
