Elodie Tanner is a 2017 New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant recipient from the University of Western Australia. Elodie is studying a Bachelor of Science majoring in Agricultural Science and Conservation Biology.
Elodie completed the Agriculture Semester Program at Bogor Agricultural University in August-December 2017.
Q: Why did you decide to undertake the ACICIS program?
To challenge myself and do something different, as well as to develop my understanding of Agriculture in a different context.
Q: What classes are you currently enrolled in?
- Animal breeding – using quantitative and qualitative genetics for animal breeding programs
- Basic animal product technology: processes surrounding food production.
- Integrated pest & disease management: implementing sustainable pest management.
- Tropical conservation biology: conservation efforts in the tropics.
Q:How has your study in Indonesia influenced your understanding of Agriculture or Food Security in the region?
It has raised my awareness of the different issues Indonesian farmers face such as land availability, and the push towards organic farming.
Q: What do you like to do in your spare time in Bogor?
Eat food of course! Meet up with friends.
Q: Are you undertaking an internship while in Indonesia?
I’m interning at IMARF, an NGO focused on mangrove conservation.
Q: What is your favourite food?
Either beef rendang or tempe.
Q: What is your favourite place to eat?
The food court near my kos – its’ so convenient!
